What’s next? Whether you are a decade away, a few years away, months away, or already into it, retirement evokes questions of identity and purposes: Who am I? What is my purpose?
Thousands of men and women are retiring each day, and many look forward to retirement with equal parts excitement and anxiety. Many professionals who have had high expectations through their careers, have high expectations of retirement: they want what comes next to be meaningful, significant, and full of joy. But this requires thoughtful planning.
At the Crossroads, by Clayton Smith and Dave Wilson, is a six-week Bible-based study offering comprehensive, practical help for Christians who are approaching, entering, or already in retirement. Readers can work through the book on their own or as part of a group. Copies of the book are available on Sundays in the Birmingham site church bookstore (open every Sunday, from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.) and during the week in the church office. The Rev. Shawn Lewis-Lakin will be leading a six-week study of the book on Sunday evenings, from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m., beginning Sunday, January 7.
What’s next? With prayer and planning, retirement can be an exciting new chapter for ministry and mission! As you begin 2018, read, study, discuss, pray, and plan!
