What to Expect
Welcome!
Our goal is to make your first visit feel like you have come home…for indeed, you have! The following is a snapshot of what you can expect as a guest at Birmingham First.
What to Wear
God’s house does not have a dress code. Worshipers wear everything from denim to dresses or suits during the traditional services. Feel free to wear clothing that makes you feel comfortable.
Parking
Our main parking lot is at the back of the building off Pleasant Street. Designated spaces especially for visitors are available right near the Main Entrance to our building. Parking for those with limited mobility is located along the Christian Life Center and at the far northwest corner of the main parking lot. A limited number of handicap spaces are located in front of the building off Pleasant Street.
Entering the Church Building
Sunday morning greeters make all who enter our doors feel welcome. They can direct you to the sanctuary or Christian Life Center and have information regarding Sunday School for all ages. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. If the greeter doesn’t know the answer, he or she will certainly know where to find it.
The Worship Experience
You will be greeted again as you enter the sanctuary. An usher will provide an Order of Worship and escort you to a seat of your choice. During the service, a Friendship Pad is passed for all worshipers to sign. Please take a moment to sign it so church members can greet you after the service and so we may send a welcome note during the following week. You will hear an announcement about our Welcome Center and an invitation to receive a special gift for first-time visitors. We invite you to take that invitation seriously and stop by to pick up a loaf of bread along with other information about our church.
Babies, Children and Youth
Sunday is our “Main Event,” and we hope to see you every week! It is our goal for children to experience scripture in action, not just in study. We offer nursery care for birth to 4 year olds and Sunday School for ages 3 years to 12th grade.
Welcome Center
Have questions? Need information? The Welcome Center is located just outside the sanctuary doors and is a great resource for our members and guests alike. Staffed by a friendly and knowledgeable church member, this is the place to find brochures about Methodism or information about church programs and activities. First-time guests will find their loaf of bread at the Welcome Center.
What Happens After Church
In a word…lots! Come into Fellowship Hall and enjoy a cup of coffee. You will be amazed at the diversity of activities you will find each week. Visit the Connecting Grounds kiosk to learn about how you can best connect to Birmingham First.
