Make a Sandwich for Streethreads

What is StreeThreads?

A mission started in 2007 that originally took warm clothing and a hot meal to the homeless and near-homeless in the area of 2nd and Peterboro in Detroit. Over the years it has evolved to preparing/serving dinner to the women and children at Haven in Pontiac, to now preparing approximately 300 sandwiches and bag lunches four times a year for the NOAH project at Central UMC in Detroit.

What is NOAH?

Networking, Organizing and Advocating for the Homeless serves 35,000 lunches each year to the poor and homeless. Moreover, Central UMC is a safe, warm space where people are known by name. Offered Monday through Thursday, the Bag Lunch Program has served this community for over 40 years.

What can I do?

We welcome donations of sandwiches, cookies and/or fruit. We welcome your help making sandwiches on Sunday mornings after the 9:30 service on the day before we go to Central UMC. We welcome you to join us when we serve four times during the year.

When is the next time?

On Monday, October 22, gather with us at 9:00 a.m. in the Birmingham First kitchen when we load the food, clothing and toiletries into a church van and leave to serve. And/or join us on Sunday, October 21 in the kitchen following the 9:30 service to prepare sandwiches.

What if I can’t do either?

Please consider donating sandwiches, fruit or cookies to help fill those bag lunches.

How do I volunteer?
