Baldwin Center

We support the back-to-school program, the holiday store, and the family kitchen. Twice a year, volunteers serve lunch at the Baldwin Avenue food program. We also provide holiday food baskets, work teams, and interns for their summer camp program.

(Redford) Brightmoor Initiative

Providing the families of the Brightmoor neighborhood in Detroit with essential goods and services as a means of achieving stability while also focusing on building community. Detroit, MI

Cass Community Social Services

Assisting women and children without a home, the newly poor without a job, and the addicted and afflicted without hope, volunteer tutors and work teams provide support for Mom’s Place, basketball, the Christmas store, and other areas as needed. 


On the fourth Sunday of September, the community comes together for this multi-generational event to raise money for Church World Service to combat poverty and hunger throughout the world. 25% of funds raised go to local charities. Participants include everyone who wants to battle poverty and hunger by walking or supporting a walker. 

Focus Hope

One Saturday every other month, volunteers take boxes of staples to those in need. The primary recipients are seniors — low income, disabled, alone or without transportation — living in the Pontiac area. 

Hands 4 Detroit

United Methodist Church district-wide neighborhood clean-up and enhancement work day. Variety of mission and volunteer opportunities. Tasks and location to be announced. Saturday, October 6 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Offsite at designated work areas in Detroit.

HOLD (Hands on Local Deeds)

As a part of our local urban ministry, HOLD provides assistance in maintaining housing to those unable to provide for themselves. The tasks performed by volunteers of the HOLD team include rough and finish carpentry, drywall, plumbing, painting and tile work.

HOPE Shelters

Oakland County’s only low barrier homeless shelter assists over 500 guests annually and finds a place to call home for 250. HOPE’s second shelter is a Recuperative Shelter, housing those who find themselves discharged from a hospital without a home. Pontiac, MI


Juvenile Lifers

Shop for clothing and life essentials for soon-to-be-released juvenile lifer inmates. Two-person teams fill a backpack for a specific lifer with clothes and shoes of specific sizes, which are presented to the juvenile lifer on the day of release. Sponsored by Church and Society Ministry in partnership with the Michigan State Appellate Defender Office. Offsite.

NOAH Project

The NOAH Project networks, advocates, and extends radical hospitality to low-income and homeless Detroiters. The goal of NOAH staff is to empower
people to find their individualized path to self-sufficiency, and we support the services of social workers, case workers, counselors, nurses, and other professionals. Detroit, MI

Methodist Children's Home

Located in Redford, the Methodist Children’s home provides an environment of love and understanding that assists children in becoming healthy and productive. Our volunteers host a Christmas party for the foster children, provide gifts, and plan activities during the year. 

Micah 6

The Micah 6 Pontiac Mission feeds, clothes, educates, maintains gardens and greenhouses to benefit the community, and provides a Sunday night church service. Our volunteers support Micah 6 by participating in a variety of outdoor clean-up projects including painting, gardening, home repair, trash removal, and more. We also host food drives for the people of the Micah 6 neighborhood and support their back-to-school event. 

Ruth Ellis Center

Teams of volunteers prepare and serve dinner for 35 LGBT youth at the Ruth Ellis Drop-in Center in Highland Park. Sponsored by Church and Society Ministry. First and third Wednesday of each month from 4:30-7:00 p.m. Offsite.


In partnership with The NOAH Project, StreeThreads ministers to the poor and homeless of Detroit.


Visitation Ministry

Volunteers with warm hearts and good listening skills make phone calls, visit, deliver flowers or take communion to our members who are at home or in retirement communities. Training is available.
