Art & Soul

A ministry to inspire dignity, pride and purpose in the homeless and those in need in Detroit through self-expressive art.

What We Do

For over 5 years, Art & Soul has been a ministry that inspires dignity, pride and purpose in the homeless and those in need in Detroit through art; painting, drawing, pottery, beading, knitting, sewing and more. Our studio offers a safe, cozy and inspiring oasis for participants to explore and develop their creative talents, learn new crafts and techniques, make friends, and obtain some structure as counterpoint, and comfort, to their life on the streets. Our participants have opportunity to sell their artwork at various shows, including the Art Prize in Grand Rapids, increasing their self esteem and opening doors not otherwise available to them.

When We Do It

From September through June, the Art & Soul mission team meets every Monday and Thursday from 10:30 am – 3:00 pm at Central United Methodist Church in Detroit. Carpooling is available, departing Birmingham First at 9:30 am. We welcome ALL volunteers. . .no artistic ability is required. . .but might be acquired! Check us out on Facebook – Art and Soul Detroit.
