Spirit Journey empowers Native American youth to reach their potential by offering year round programming such as after school programs, trips, summer camp, tutoring, mentoring, traditional foods and shelter, birch bark canoe making and basketball clinics. These activities teach respect for self, others, environment and above all, our Creator.etc. Spirit Journey creates an environment of opportunities for Native Youth to succeed.
We support programs designed to help and develop Native American youth in the Leelanau Peninsula. Spirit Journey programs include, tutoring, mentoring and skill building. Birmingham First has raised money to build cabins and to support tutoring efforts for children, and we work alongside other Methodist churches who are also involved. Our work will focus on helping Spirit Journey become self sustaining.
Most of our work is done at the Spirit Journey summer camp location in Northport, Michigan. We have been involved in cabin construction, camp clean up, and various repairs and maintenance work. Our goal is to raise funds to support programs, assist where ever we can and to educate people about the plight of the Native Americans.
