In 2017, Birmingham First entered into a “sister congregation” relationship with the Methodist Church of Manzanillo, Cuba. Since 1992, when the government in Cuba passed a law allowing for freedom of religion, the Methodist church in Cuba has experienced rapid and constant growth. At present there are 400 Methodist churches in Cuba with 42,000 members.
This past year, we entered into a new relationship with the Methodist Church of Manzanillo, Cuba. This church will be one of our “sister congregations” and we will be sending a VIM team to help renovate the church building. In addition, we will be assisting them financially to provide lunch to children on Sundays and helping them to update their audio equipment for their services.
We will be sending a team to Cuba to work annually. In 2018, we hope to send a family/youth team to Manzanillo.
