Lent and Easter 2018

Lent & Easter

During Lent, we prepare our hearts for Easter and to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

An Invitation to Lent

Pastor's Message

In the early Church, Lent was a time of preparing converts for baptism and membership in the community of faith. It was a season of self-reflection, repentance, fasting, prayer, and spiritual preparation. For those who had struggled in their faith, Lent was a time to reconnect with God and the body of Christ.

As we journey through this holy season, I invite you to join us for some of the many opportunities that we offer at Birmingham and Berkley First to strengthen our connections to God and one another. Whether you join us for worship on some of the most sacred days of this season like Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday or Good Friday, sign up for one of the many groups that offer our Lenten study, serve others through one of our many mission opportunities, or gather together with us for soup, prayer and communion on Wednesday evenings, I pray that Lent might be a holy time for you on our journey towards the joy that is Easter, resurrection, and new life in Jesus Christ.

I look forward to what God has in store for us and for our world as we worship, study, pray, and fellowship with one another in this sacred season of the year. May God’s Spirit work among us to lead our communities to a life-giving Easter.

Blessings,
Elbert Dulworth
Senior Pastor

Lenten Book Study

"Restored"

Our all-church Lenten study is Tom Berlin’s Restored: Finding Redemption in Our Mess. Using scripture, devotional tools and other writings, Berlin encourages reflection and meditation through our own brokenness. Only then can we focus on the cross as the place where we truly surrender control, leave our mess, and find
redemption.

The study begins the week of February 18, including a new study group on Wednesdays at 6:45 p.m., after Mid-Week Worship at 6:00. For a list of study groups, contact Lindsay Gursky. Books ($9) are available in the Circuit Rider Bookstore on Sunday mornings and in the church office during the week.
