About First Kids Preschool

First Kids Preschool strives to nurture each child’s individuality and innate curiosities in a loving, Christian environment. Our goal is to instill a desire for lifelong learning as we prepare preschoolers for kindergarten and the world beyond.

Our Philosophy

We believe that each child is unique, and we do our best to nurture the intrinsic God-given gifts that each one brings and shares with us. We also believe that what truly makes a difference in a child’s life, beneath the method, materials, and curriculum, is a teacher who cares about each child and who teaches from the heart.

Toddlers and preschool children all learn best by “doing.” They are active learners who gain knowledge by acting directly on and with concrete objects. Through these actions, they can draw conclusions about their world. Within our daily classroom routine, we have many hands-on activities and projects designed to be stimulating and fun for your child. It is exciting to watch our toddlers and preschoolers as they tirelessly experiment and investigate the world.

TWENTY-ONE MONTHS  THRU TWO-YEAR-OLD CLASS

Ages 21 months to 2 years old

Primary Caregivers provide a safe haven as your child learns how to separate from mom and dad as well as how to function in a group, two very important developmental tasks. We provide many opportunities for our toddlers to explore their world within a safe and loving environment.

THREE-YEAR-OLD CLASS

Children may attend 2, 3, or 4 days per week.

We embrace purposeful play and exploration to help children develop skills in cooperative play, listening, following directions, self-help, and communicating their needs with their developing language. Our daily lessons include early literacy and math activities

We provide many opportunities for our toddlers to explore their world within a safe and loving environment.

FOUR-YEAR-OLD CLASS

Children may attend 3, 4 or 5 days per week.

We prepare children for the transition to Kindergarten through purposeful play and exploration, continuing our focus on early literacy, math, fine motor skills and handwriting, communication, and the self-help skills necessary for kindergarten.

YOUNG FIVES CLASS

Our Young 5’s program is a full week, half day program designed for students who meet the age requirement for kindergarten but would benefit from an extra year of learning and growth. It is also open to students who will be turning five between September 1st and December 31st. This program works to provide a small classroom community where students work towards social, emotional and academic readiness for kindergarten. Our Young 5’s curriculum is very similar to our 4’s curriculum but works at a more accelerated rate. It includes content such as language, early literacy, math, handwriting, music, physical education, science, social studies, social/ emotional development and lots of play.

I taught K-6 vocal music in Troy and Utica Schools for ten years and then stayed home when my daughters were born.  I was a Gymboree gym and music  teacher for ten years and was a Girl Scout leader as well.  My husband, Ken, and I, have been  married for 27 years.  We have one daughter in college and one daughter who is a recent college graduate.  I enjoy being active in a professional music organization, serving as secretary of our homeowner’s association and spending time at our cottage in Lexington. The children at First Kids Preschool make my days JOYFUL!

Megan Korzeniewski

Hello!  My name is Megan Korzeniewski, referred to by the children as Mrs. K :)  I am excited to begin my second year as the director of First Kids Preschool.  Previously, I spent seven years teaching in the Green/Orange Room with the Fabulous 4s.  I have a bachelor’s degree in family studies and human growth and development.  I remained at home while my three sons, Jozef, Nikalai, and Seth were young. I returned to teaching in the public schools, as a substitute teacher, prior to landing at my favorite spot – right here at First Kids Preschool.  Jozef will be   starting his junior year studying broadcasting at CMU.  Nikalai will be starting at U of M and Seth will be in his junior year at Brother Rice.  I enjoy working out, going for nature walks, biking with my husband, sailing, embracing the beauty of our Great Lakes and listening to music.  I believe giving children a strong start in life is vital.  It is the reason the work we do here is so important.  I am delighted to be a small part of your family’s journey and thank you for entrusting our amazing and talented staff with the care of your children.
