In a classic Peanuts comic strip, Lucy is introducing Linus to the library, saying, “See that building over there? That’s the library. If you ever want to borrow a book, all you have to do is go in there and tell them which one you want, and they’ll let you take it home!” “Free?” asks Linus. “Absolutely free!” says Lucy. To which Linus responds, “Sort of makes you wonder what they’re up to!”
As you glance at all our fall programs, there is no guessing what we are up to at Birmingham and Berkley First. We exist “to gather, nurture, and equip disciples of Jesus Christ for ministry and mission in the world.” In fact, one of our core values is to “Encourage Lifelong Spiritual Growth.”
We know that the journey of faith is not always easy. The good news, however, is that we don’t have to make the journey alone. Your church family is here to walk with you. From infancy through our elder years, we believe that it is important for disciples of Jesus Christ to continue to nurture their faith together.
Proverbs 27:17(NIV) states, “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” I hope that you will join me in taking advantage of the many opportunities for continued spiritual growth and fellowship that exist across the campuses of our church in order that we might continue to grow together as faithful disciples of Jesus Christ.
