Composer Festival 2019 – Participant Registration Open

Composer Festival 2019

Morten Lauridsen, Guest Composer
Saturday, November 9, 2019
Registration is now full.

National Medal of the Arts Winner, National Endowment for the Arts “American Choral Master,” ASCAP “Life in Music” Award Winner, Distinguished Professor of Composition at the University of Southern California, and former Composer-in-Residence for the Los Angeles Master Chorale, Dr. Morten Lauridsen joins us as this year’s guest composer at Birmingham First’s annual Composer Festival.

Composer Festival is an annual tradition that invites singers and choral directors from around Metropolitan Detroit to join together in making music with, and learning from a leading choral composer. We spend the day in rehearsals as a Festival Chorus leading to an evening performance. This year’s festival promises to be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!

In the 2007 National Medal the Arts Award Ceremony at the White House, Dr. Lauridsen’s compositions were described as “radiant choral works combining musical beauty, power, and spiritual depth that have thrilled audiences worldwide.” Our repertoire, chosen from those radiant works, for the festival will be:

  • Lux Aeterna
  • Prayer
  • O magnum mysterium
  • I Lift Up Mine Eyes
  • Sure on this Shining Night
  • Dirait-on
  • Se per Haveri, Oime
  • Ya eres mia
