Overview
Ministries for women at our church include a wide spectrum of activities related to the
support and spiritual growth of women. The primary focus of the United Methodist Women
(UMW) is to plan, support, and nurture mission activities for the women of our church.
These outreach activities take place locally and around the world.UMW organizes a wide variety of mission activities, organizes giving
to local mission outreach, and collaborates with other church groups for educational
and mission purposes. We meet in small groups as Circles, attend
general meetings, and participate in short-term outreach projects. The major source of
funding for UMW mission outreach is the Rummage
Sale held in the spring and fall. Women of the circles are also encouraged to
make pledges which help to support mission projects for women & children around the
world.
Purpose
The United Methodist Women of the First United Methodist Church, Birmingham, is an active
and involved community of women. Our purpose is to know God and to experience joy and
freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ, to develop creative and supportive
fellowship, and to expand the concepts of mission through participation in the global
ministries of the Church.
Membership
All women of the church are considered members of UMW. Many opportunities for fellowship,
service, and study are provided through the activities sponsored by UMW. New members are
always welcome. If you are interested in becoming involved in any of the activities
sponsored by UMW, please contact Claudia Crosby
or call the church office for more information.
Special Programs
UMW gathers several times a year for special programs and "mini-projects" which
reflect our mission focus. Watch Steeple Notes for details
about our Spring Potluck and Fall Dessert general meetings. Each year on Ash Wednesday,
UMW members and friends gather for worship and brunch. Join us!. |
