In July, Carl & Pat Price led two groups of people from our church hiking in Glacier National Park. Thirty eight people worshiped and shared the beauties of mountains, lakes, wild life and wildflowers. Each group was there for a week. This Park is on the Canadian border and, along with neighboring Waterton National Park in Canada makes up Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park.
Hikers ranged in age from 5 to over 80 and hiked trails varying in length from four to sixteen miles. Only four ladies did that longer one … out the Highline Trail at Logan Pass, over the Contentinal Divide and back into camp. Some in the groups had been there and made that hike before and said once was enough, but all did the ten mile round trip hike to Iceberg Lake .. a lake well named, as large pieces of ice can be found floating in the lake in August.
They gathered for breakfast and packing lunch and shared some evening meals around the Price’s trailer. Devotions were handed out for reading and reflection during the hike or some quiet moment of the day. Each group hosted the campground rangers and volunteer campground hosts at a pizza party on one of the evenings and at an evening campfire the children in the group had an opportunity to roast marshmallows while Carl shared with them “the strange things done ‘neath the midnight sun”, namely the Cremation of Sam McGee.
This marked the fifteenth year that Carl and Pat have led these groups from our church, and made the fifth trip (seven groups) from our church that have visited Glacier. Again, as every year, there were first timers and veterans. Other National Park Adventure destinations have in included Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado, Acadia in Maine, Denali and Kenai Fjords in Alaska, Grand Canyon and Saguaro National Parks in Arizona, Teddy Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota and Arches, Canyonlands and Zion parks in Utah.
Interested in joining us on our next trip? Come on November 17th at 10:30 AM in Runkle Chapel where we will have a meeting on a possible Great Smoky Mountain Hike.
