Who’s
your neighbor?
FaithWeavers Lesson for March 2
The Bible tells us
that Jesus was constantly traveling around the countryside with his
disciples. They didn’t stay long in one place. The Bible also tells
us that Jesus was a great teacher. But since he was always moving
from place to place, Jesus didn’t have a church or a school where he
taught. He talked to people wherever he found them. Jesus taught by
telling stories. We call his teaching stories
parables.
Jesus’ parables used
everyday situations and objects that people knew and understood to
teach them about God. One of the most famous of Jesus’ parables
was the story of the Good Samaritan. Jesus taught the story to
answer the question “Who is my neighbor?” It is about a man who was
robbed and beaten while he was on the way to Jericho. Several
people saw him wounded and lying along the roadside, but no one
stopped to help him. Finally a man stopped and helped him, and took
him to a place where he would be safe and cared for. The man who
helped was a Samaritan, someone who was supposed to be the wounded
man’s enemy. Jesus said that everyone we meet is our neighbor and
that we should help anyone in need -- no matter who they are. No
matter how near or far away people are, Jesus says we are supposed
to treat all people as if they are our friends and neighbors.

4th
Week of Lent
Lent
is a special time when Christians get ready to celebrate Easter.
Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and lasts 40 days plus 6 Sundays.
It is a time to think about Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection; a
time to study Jesus’ teachings, and a time think of ways to be more
like Jesus. Each week we will tell you about some of the ways
people use Lent to become closer to Jesus.
Forgiveness
One of the
lessons Jesus taught was the importance of forgiveness. He said
that we should forgive people who hurt us -- not just one time, but
over and over. Jesus said God will forgive us over and over again,
too, if we are sorry and ask God to forgive us for things we do
wrong. It isn’t easy to forgive a person who has said or done
something mean to us. And it can be just as hard to say we’re sorry
and to ask someone to forgive us for something
we
have
done wrong. But Jesus wants us to try our very hardest to get along
with each other. Think how much better the world would be if
everyone in every country were loving and forgiving towards each
other. If God forgives people for all the bad things they do,
shouldn’t we try to do the same?
