MEET CAITLIN! Caitlin Cummings is the Children’s Ministry Intern this summer. She has planned some great activities for kids in summer Sunday School! You will see her at all three services on Sundays, checking the nursery, Li’l K preschool, and Kidmo elementary classes. Caitlin grew up in First Church. She worked on the hunger and missions ministry areas, sang in choir (she was a choir camp counselor for two summers), and taught in the Sunday School through high school. She is a junior at Michigan State University and will be starting a full-time internship at Neiman-Marcus beginning in July.
Beginning June 6, young children
SIGN UP FOR CLC FUN! The CLC is sponsoring some special activities for K-5th graders during the summer. There will be a week of basketball, and cheerleading, and a field trip series “Camp on the Road.” Check the CLC for dates and registration forms.
Whose Earth is it, anyway?
CHOIR CAMP IS
AUGUST 5-11 Singers who will be in 4th through 12th grades in the fall are invited to participate in First Church’s Choir Camp this summer. Have a great time singing and getting to know other choir members. Our theme this year is “Whose earth is it, anyway?” and we’ll be focusing on how to take care of God’s world. The camp is held at Camp Lael, which is just outside Lapeer. Counselors and other staff from First Church plan and lead the week-long program. In addition to lots of singing, there is swimming, crafts, games, special evening activities, Bible study, and worship -- and all of it is fun, fun, fun! For information, contact Robyn Camisa in the Music Department at 248.646.6407, extension 3125.
THE PENNY PROJECT IS IN AFRICA! The Penny Project has collected over 5,237,900 pennies so far. It was started by First Church youth who want to help the people of Africa who have AIDS, an illness that has taken many people’s lives. A group of high school students will be traveling to Ghana from June 19 through July 2 this summer to see for themselves how the AIDS crisis is affecting the people in Africa. Give a penny, make change!
SUMMER MISSION OPPORTUNITY FOR current 4TH, 5TH, AND 6TH GRADERS July 18-21 is the date of the summer mission work camp to Sneedville, Tennessee. Jan Mistele, Carl Gladstone, and Heather McNutt will lead a group to be a part of the Jubilee Project, which provides assistance to poverty-stricken residents of the community. The trip provides the opportunity for children to participate in hands-on mission work as well as to grow in their own faith. Projects are matched according to the ages of the participants. Bus transportation will be provided. Brochures are available outside the CYF office.
SAFETY FIRST... The Sneed Children’s Park provides many hours of fun for our children. We would ask that all users of the playground follow basic safety guidelines when playing on the equipment. 1) Parents or care-givers should supervise children at all times from inside the fenced area. 2) No pets should be brought within the fenced area. 3) The equipment is specifically designed for children 5-11. Younger children should be closely monitored and children over the age of 11 should not be on it at all. 4) No climbing UP the slide -- use the stairs. 5) No climbing ,sitting, or standing on top of the curly slide structure or the tube. 6) The Preschool and Enrichment programs have exclusive use of the playground Monday through Friday at specific times. For the safety of all of our children, please do not visit the playground when the preschool and enrichment classes are playing on the playground.
On Friday, October 13, nearly 250 children and adults enjoyed a concert with Mary Rice Hopkins and Darcie Maze.
Please be aware that First Church has been declared a nut-free environment. No nuts of any kind should be brought to the church. A number of people in our congregation have life-threatening allergies to peanuts and other kinds of nuts. Please check the ingredients of any food product you bring into the church. Also there are people who are highly allergic to animals, so please leave your pets at home. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!
