Holy Week
Holy Week is the last week of Lent. During the earliest days of the Church, devout Christians traveled to Jerusalem to reenact the events of the week leading up to Christ's Resurrection. The tourists who came to Jerusalem took the customs home with them. By the fifth century Holy Week observances had spread to Spain, and to England by the early seventh century. Rome did not observe Holy Week until the twelfth century.
Our Church typically observes Holy Week with services on Palm Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, and Easter Sunday. An Ecumenical Good Friday Service is usually held at a local church with one of our pastors preaching one of the sermons. |
