Rev. Jeff Nelson
Rev. Jeff Nelson

After working with the church as a seminary intern, Jeff was invited to join the staff as an associate pastor of Youth and Contemporary Worship. In the spring of 2004, Jeff found the title "Reverend" added to his name as he was ordained at the Detroit Annual Conference. Jeff and his wife Bridget are originally from Wisconsin. Although they have fallen in love with the Metro Detroit area, they are still avowed Cheeseheads ... Go Pack Go!

In 1997, Bridget and Jeff came to Detroit through what they thought would be a one-year volunteer urban missions program. They had no idea that their lives would be changed forever. They arrived in Motown with a sense of adventure, a heart filled with goodwill, and a desire to earn a few "brownie points" with the Big Guy upstairs. However, God transformed their lives and they finished the year with a sense of God's call, a heart broken by the suffering of the world, and a desire to partner with God in a ministry of service.

Prior to entering seminary, Jeff was a social worker with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metropolitan Detroit and a community organizer with Groundwork, where he worked on issues of human rights and racial justice. Jeff brings a real passion for helping people of all ages better understand who God is, how God can work in their lives, and how they too can respond to the unique call God has placed on their lives. Jeff hopes to help the youth of our church build the kind of program where they can be transformed by the Spirit and called into the service of their community and their world.
