First Orchestra

This group is made up of instrumentalists ranging from accomplished middle school students to Detroit Symphony Orchestra musicians. The group practices only twice before playing in church, practicing at 6:30 p.m. on the two Thursdays preceding the performance. The music played is hymn-based and written with two levels of difficulty, one easy and one more challenging. The orchestra plays five Sundays each year at the 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. worship hours.

The purpose of the organization is multi-faceted. It serves the needs of adults who have played in high school or college and would like to keep their instrumental playing active. It also serves the needs of students by giving them a performance arena with adults without the pressures of a concert situation. It serves the needs of anyone who wishes to serve the Church through their instrumental talents. Participation is emphasized above performance. "No pressure - enjoy!"

The orchestra is open to players from middle school student to adult, any player who can handle up to four sharps or flats (most of the time).
