Genesis, as we all know, is the first book of the Bible. Genesis Choir, as you may not realize, is the first choir in our church that has the youngest full-fledged members of our congregation. We confirm into full membership our youth who are in the sixth grade. That makes these young people our youngest members. They are just beginning their Christian pilgrimage as members of our church, hence the name Genesis.

Join Genesis Choir
One of the ways a youth in Middle School (Grades 6-8) can serve God and the Church is by singing in choir. The Music Ministry of our church provides instruction to this age group that stresses music, worship, teamwork, responsibility, and service. The goal of this choir is to develop singing abilities, develop music reading skills, give exposure to many different styles of music, and challenge your spiritual awareness through worship. At least 2-part singing, if not 3-part singing, challenging music from different historical periods, a variety of styles in contemporary music, and musical drama are the hallmarks of this choir. The only admission requirement is a willingness to try your best.

Singers should keep in mind that, unlike most other organizations, singing in choir is our offering to God. Even though there are "performance" aspects to choir, it is first and foremost service to the church. Genesis Choir is a marked step up in expectation. It's not for everybody. It takes commitment, dedication, risk, and faith. Like anything else, you get out of it what you put into it.

This choir practices on Thursday afternoons from 5:00pm to 6:00pm from Labor Day to Mother's Day, excluding Birmingham Public School holidays.

The Genesis Choir sings once every three to four weeks at one of the three Sunday Worship services. The choir also joins with the IXOYC Choir to lead in one of the Christmas Eve services, presents a musical drama in the spring, and every summer has a week long choir camp experience. In addition, our goal is to have the choir sing at least once outside of our church each year.
