 The Chancel Choir of the First United Methodist Church in Birmingham is one of many choirs that constitute the Music Ministry of the church. This group of dedicated volunteer singers enjoy singing as an offering to God. The choir season runs from the first Sunday after Labor Day until the last Sunday in July. In addition to regular Sunday offerings, each year the choir presents two major works with orchestral accompaniment. They are active in special programs through out the year as well as seasonal offerings. The choir serves as the sponsoring organization for the annual Composer Festival, which is part of the Live at First Concert Series. Come make a joyful noise unto the Lord.
The Chancel Choir is actually two different adult choirs. One choir rehearses on Wednesday evening from 8:00pm until 9:30pm and sings at the 9:30am Worship Services on Sunday. The other choir rehearses from 7:30pm until 9:00pm on Thursday evenings and sings at the 11:00am Service on Sunday. Members of both choirs join together on an ad hoc basis to sing at the 8:15am service.
Both choirs sing the same music, and rehearsals for each choir are identical. If you join Chancel Choir and find you have a conflict on one rehearsal evening, you may attend the other weekly rehearsal and not miss a thing. If you have a conflict at one Sunday service, you can sing at either or both of the other two.
To celebrate the 15th anniversary of Doris and Chris Hall's music ministry at our church, the Chancel Choir commissioned a new anthem from John Leavitt.
