Missions Candle

You can support our church's missions work while honoring or remembering an important person or event in your life by making a donation to light the Missions Candle on the altar.

When you make a donation:

  • The Missions Candle will be lit at the morning and evening worship services on the Sunday you choose.
  • A note acknowledging your donation will appear in Steeple Notes on that same Sunday.
  • Your donation will be used to support our church's Partners in Mission fund.

What is the Partners in Mission fund?

This is a fund which receives voluntary contributions from church members. It is separate from the church operating budget to which you make your annual pledge. It is used to support numerous local, national, and international missions projects as nearby as Detroit and Pontiac, as far away as Chile and Zambia, and at many points between.

What kinds of projects does it support?

Recent projects include purchasing a filter to provide pure drinking water to an entire community in Appalachia, providing two staff members for an academic camp for 60 at-risk students in Pontiac, and purchasing construction materials used by our church's Volunteers in Mission team for a homeless shelter in the Czech Republic.

How do I make this donation?

Fill out the Missions Candle form (either the online form or one of the forms found in the brochure racks at the church). Return the completed form with your check for at least $30 to the church office.

Alternatively, you can call Janet Smylie in our church office at 248-646-6407 ext. 3121 to discuss your donation.
