Missions Ministry

For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me. ... And the king will answer them, "Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these ... you did it to me."
Matthew 25:35-36,40

Purpose

The purpose of the Missions Ministry is to

Answer God's call and provide leadership in helping make disciples of people of all nations ... and our mission begins here at our own church.
Identify key mission opportunities and needs on local, national, and global levels.
Energize the congregation through mission education and hands-on personal experiences to provide Christian support to those in need.
Promote the United Methodist Committee On Relief's (UMCOR) motto "Put Love In Action" in our daily lives and in our personal outreach ministry. This can open hearts of unbelievers to the holistic Gospel. More people are brought to Jesus through personal outreach mission ministry than we'll ever know.

Opportunities to Put Love in Action

YOU are needed for Christian volunteer "hands-on" service.

You are needed to help provide support and to help change lives of people in the various United Methodist mission agencies our church serves.

South Oakland Shelter is hosted by our church for one week each year. Volunteers are needed for many things, including doing our guests' laundry at the end of the week.
On the third Saturday of alternate months, volunteers are needed to help deliver Focus Hope food packages to low income families and senior citizens in the Pontiac area.
On select Sundays throughout the year volunteers are needed to help serve lunch at the Baldwin Center in Pontiac.
Bible teachers are needed at Baldwin.
Mentoring families are needed to accept a child twice per month for one year.
Tutoring and teaching are also needed at Baldwin.
Cass Community needs volunteers for activity centers, East Side Ministries, food programs, homeless programs, medical clinic, scouting, Safe Haven, senior center, transitional housing, youth programs, and their Haunted House.
Volunteers are needed in other local mission projects like Habitat for Humanity, Prison Ministry, and Retirement Homes.
Volunteers are also needed to participate in mission work camps in Costa Rica, Chile, Red Bird, the Czech Republic, or other locations for adults, youth and families.
