Volunteers in Mission Trip 2004

A Volunteers In Mission trip in the fall of 2004 provided assistance in building the Chapel and Library additions to the school. See the detailed list of accomplishments below.

Accomplishments
2004 Chile VIM trip

Construction

  1. Plastered walls in Library
  2. Painted walls in Library.
  3. Painted ceiling in Library.
  4. Completed floor tile in Chapel.
  5. Grouted tile in Chapel.
  6. Added tile baseboard to Chapel.
  7. Formed steel shapes for concrete reinforcement.
  8. Wired steel for reinforcing poured concrete footings.
  9. Wired steel for reinforcing poured concrete columns
  10. Dug "The Ditch" for footing on retaining wall.
  11. Prepared footings for poured concrete with steel reinforcing.
  12. Assembled wooden forms for poured concrete footings.
  13. Wired vertical column rod structures to footing rods.
  14. Mixed and poured concrete for footings.
  15. Mixed mortar for concrete block wall.
  16. Helped lay concrete blocks to form wall.
  17. "Tuck point" mortar in joints of blocks.

Emana

  1. Contributed $6500 toward construction project and project materials.
  2. Paid $1300 for room and board team expenses.

Kusayapu - school

  1. Contributed $1000 towards library/Chapel equipment and supplies.
  2. Led communion service in new Chapel for team - first time Chapel is used.
  3. Led communion service for community, staff and students in new Chapel.
  4. Met with English class for lesson on USA - 8th grade.
  5. Met with computer class.
  6. Purchased storybooks and dictionaries for new library.
  7. Had "game" nights for team and students.
  8. Attended morning opening devotions for students each day.

Other

  1. Attended Iquique UMC Sunday church service both Sundays.
  2. Visited Colegio Ingles, English Methodist High School,.
  3. Hosted party dinner for EMANA / Kusayapu staff.
  4. Brought clothing for students and staff.
