Volunteers in Mission Trip 2003

A Volunteers In Mission trip October 20 thru November 3, 2003, provided assistance in building the Chapel and Library additions to the school. See the detailed list of accomplishments below.

Accomplishments
2003 Chile VIM trip

Construction of Library addition
1. Helped lay concrete blocks to form walls of new addition.
2. Constructed wooden concrete forms for poured columns and headers.
3. Wired steel for reinforcing poured concrete columns.
4. Prepared gravel for use in mortar. Sifting and hauling.
5. “Tuck point” mortar in joints of blocks.
6. Wound wire for concrete form installation.
7. Mounted wooden concrete forms to walls.
8. Made stucco clips from tin.
9. Nailed stucco clips and wire mesh to outside of concrete walls.

Huara UMC
1. Connected footing reinforcing rods structures.
2. Wired vertical column rod structures to footing rods.
3. Prepared footings for poured concrete - to be done by Iquique UMC’s members.

Emana
1. Contributed $5000 toward construction project and project materials.
2. Donated $500 toward extra expenses - over and above team expenses.

Kusayapu - school
1. Contributed $1000 towards library equipment and supplies.
2. Contributed $1000 towards agricultural program - possible tractor fund.
3. Led communion service for staff and students.
4. Met with English class - 8th grade.
5. Helped separate bee hives to form two new families.
6. Purchased storybooks and dictionaries for new library.
7. Purchased “hot pot” for heating water.

Other
1. Attended Iquique UMC Sunday church service.
2. Sang hymn to congregation as introduction.
3. Cleaned city park in Pachica - with student help.
