Dr. Carl Price will offer five study opportunities starting in September and running for eight sessions. Three different themes will be offered. Classes will meet twice a month September through November, once in December and once in January for a total of eight sessions.
Jesus in the Gospels…This study will look at the early ministry of Jesus, up through the call and commissioning of Simon Peter. While the focus will be on the first three Gospels (Matthew, Mark and Luke) the study will look at Old Testament images and ideas that are reflected in the gospels and references to Jesus in the letters of Paul as well. Sessions will follow the Disciple Bible Study model and will be two hours in length (including refreshment break) and will make use of video clips, ‘homework’ and discussion as well as input by the leader. This class will be offered on Sunday evenings 7:00-9:00, Wednesday mornings 9:30-11:30 or Wednesday evenings 7:30-9:30. There will be a $30 fee for a Study Manual and a $10 fee for a Gospel Comparison if you don’t have one.
The Parables of Jesus…This study will focus on several of the parables of Jesus, with special emphasis on context and social setting as a background for understanding their message for today. The class will explore some of the ‘difficult’ and less familiar parables as well as the more familiar ones. This class will be offered on Sunday mornings 11:00-12:00 (depending on interest)*.
Christianity 101…This will be a study of the basic doctrines of the Christian Church as taught through the centuries. The themes looked at will include the Bible, God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, Human Beings, Salvation, the Church and End Times. This class will be offered on Sunday mornings 11:00-12:00 (depending on interest)* or Monday evenings 7:00-9:00. There will be a fee of approximately $10 to cover materials.
*Response will determine whether The Parables of Jesus or Christianity 101 is offered during the Sunday morning time period.
