... or check out these books Jack Harnish is reading:
Same Kind of Different as Me is the current study book for the
Tuesday Women's Study Group and will be read by the Arbon Dennis Men's Group
later this spring. It is a wonderful story of a transforming friendship
between a homeless black man and an upscale white art dealer.
Abide With Me by Elizabeth Strout is a powerful novel about young
preacher in a small town in
New England. It
is an honest, incredible story of his journey through grief and the
relationship with his congregation. Strout is also the author of Olive Kitteridge, another novel worth
reading.
Author and theologian Diane Butler Bass was with us in
April. Her book, Christianity for
the Rest of Us, offers a
hopeful look at traditional, progressive, mainline churches like ours. Her
newest book, A People's History of
Christianity, tells of what
she calls “grassroots movements” which have maintained Jesus' witness for
social justice throughout the centuries.
All these books are available through our virtual bookstore,
or can be found at the Circuit Rider Bookstore on Sunday mornings.
