Leelanau Penninsula Hiking Trip
May 20-22, 2005

A note from Sue Chrostek at the end of the weekend...

We arrived in Glen Arbor on Friday night May 20th. After dinner the group met at the Glen Haven Maritime Museum for a guided beach walk with National Park Ranger Bill Herd. We enjoyed participating in a ship watch walk and enjoyed the beautiful sunset over Lake Michigan. Saturday morning group photo at the Sylvan Inn after breakfast and we were ready to go hiking! Saturday morning we hiked a new trail south of Empire at Treet Farm. While we enjoyed the hiking past a “peak” display of trillium and a beautiful overlook of Lake Michigan, the newly-born fawn waiting for her mother beside the trail stole our hearts. Later in the morning the view of the Lake Michigan coast line from Empire Bluffs was exceptional looking north to Sleeping Bear Dunes.

It was a great weekend trip and really has our appetite whetted for Montana! I know we will again have equally exceptional hiking experiences. Not only in the physical beauty of the surroundings or the spiritual mysteries of nature, but getting to share it all with old and new friends from FUMC! Can’t wait . . . . Joyfully, Sue
